As I waited for my friend to arrive at Luna Leederville, there was an exciting buzz in the foyer as patrons waited to watch the feature film Hesitation Wound, and for the official program launch of the Revelation Perth International Festival.
Hesitation Wound is a legal thriller by Director Selman Nacar - it revolves around the story of Canan, a lawyer who is tasked to defend a young man for the murder of his boss at a factory where he used to work.
Meanwhile, Canan is battling with her own personal problem – her Mum is in hospital in a coma with no hope in sight.
Hesitation Wound was an interesting movie from a myriad of angles – it keeps the film goer riveted as the story unravels and we are left wondering whether the young man did indeed commit the crime that he is accused of.
Putting yourself in the shoes of Canan – you can feel much empathy and grief for her personal life circumstances, as she battles to win the case while deciding what to do with her ailing Mum.
Clocking in at 1.5 hours long, this unique and powerful courtroom drama keeps you watching until the end, till before you know it - the credits start to roll.
Tülin Özen (who plays Canan) is a real star on screen – exuding the grittiness of being a tough lawyer who doesn’t let up whilst bravely trying to remain resilient in her own personal life to keep everything afloat. She played the part perfectly.
Movie goers who enjoy a good modern thriller without pretense and with a good dose of the little quirks of Turkish daily life will enjoy Hesitation Wound.
All up – it was an enjoyable and satisfying drama that is being shown as one of the feature films of the Revelation Perth International Festival which kicks off on the 3 July.
The Program for the Revelation Perth International Festival has just been released – and is packed with all kinds of movies (from quirky to offbeat to scary to documentaries and many styles of shorts) to satisfy the appetite of any avid film goers.
